NEW CHICAGO GAY RADIO SHOW DEBUTS ON FM
CHICAGO - Windy City Times newspaper is creating a unique block of FM radio programming for the Chicago-area community. The programming, focusing on gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and health issues, had its debut on WCKG, 105.9 FM, on Sunday night, Aug. 19, 2001. WCKG is the only FM all-talk radio station in Chicago, and its 50,000-watt station reach includes Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, Northwest Indiana and Western Michigan. WINDY CITY RADIO, a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered radio program created and owned by Windy City Times newspaper, airs from 10:00-11:00pm on WCKG. This 60-minute live radio show includes many former hosts and contributors to LesBiGay Radio, a Chicago-based program which closed down in 2001. Amy Matheny and Jim Bennett are the co-hosts of the show, while Kathleen Ulm serves as Executive Producer,, and dozens of other individuals contribute special programming to the show, which is also available via the World Wide Web 24 hours a day. "This fun program, Windy City Radio, allows for a new and creative outlet to cover the GLBT community," said Tracy Baim, founder and Publisher of Lambda Publications, which publishes Windy City Times, Identity, Nightspots, and the OUT! Guide. Many regular writers for all of Lambda's publications are a part of the Windy City Radio team of weekly contributors, participating in special events and "Live" broadcasts.
