Amy Matheny, co-host of the new
Windy City Radio, was the energetic lesbian host on LesBiGay Radio for
three years. Matheny will also assist in marketing and promotions for the
new Windy City Radio. She has produced and performed in many Chicago plays,
including the cult hit, XENA LIVE!, which she created, produced, and starred
in as Gabrielle, Xena's trusty sidekick. She is a company member of the
award-winning About Face Theatre and a member of Broadway United Methodist
Church.
PETER MAVRIK The Friday night resident DJ at Spin Nightclub and
Music Editor for Nightspots, wears a million hats on a daily basis.
His lively enthusiasm for music of all genres shines brightly in his
role as a newly minted co-host on Windy City Radio. On any given day
you might also find Peter around town in the role of scene photographer,
nightclub promoter, student of Japanese, or even as an investment
banker. His ubiquitous presence in Chicago's GLBT community brings
a unique and fresh perspective to Windy City.
JIM BENNETT Jim Bennett has been writing and performing comedy since birth. He is the
co-host of Windy City Radio on 105.9 FM WCKG and recently hosted Windy City
Idol to packed venues throughout Chicago. A graduate of the ImprovOlympic
under Del Close and Second City’s Conservatory program, he’s a company
member of the award-winning GayCo where he wrote and performed in Poked,
Cinco de Gayco, 99 Bottles of Queer on the Wall and When Bush Comes to
Shove. He is a founding member of Mr. Fancypants, the house team of the
Playground Theatre in Chicago where he helped create the long running
improvised scary movie, TerrorSlide! Bennett has performed at the Chicago
Improv Festival and the Del Close Festival in New York. For the last three
years, Bennett has hosted and performed at the Human Rights Campaign’s
Laughing Out Loud at The Park West in Chicago, where Bennett and Celeste
Pechous’ comedy film short, One Community debuted. Recently he performed
with Celeste Pechous in their hit comedy on procrastination and terrorism in
PUSHED to sold out audiences in Chicago. He also does corporate bookings
with the Playground’s corporate program. You can him this fall in the Second
City’s Unhinged Series in Chicago and in Los Angeles with a new GayCo revue.
RICHARD KNIGHT, JR A certifiable cinema nut with an interest in movies that encompases everything from Satyricon to Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Knight joined the staff of Windy City Times in May of 2004 as Cinema Writer. His weekly, "Knight at the Movies" column is augmented by periodic filmmaker interviews which have included Martin Short, Marc Shaiman, Ashley Judd, and Spike Lee. Before joining WCT, Knight was film critic for "I Do I Do," a couples radio talk show (also on WCKG-FM) from 1999-2002. He has written extensively for the Chicago Tribune, the Reader and New City. Night Spies, the weekly nightlife column he created with illustrator Steve Gruhn for the Reader, was launched in 2000. Knight was recently elected to membership in the Chicago Film Critics Association. JERRY NUNN Jerry Nunn is thrilled to be working with Windy City Radio as a guest
host and even got an opportunity to interview Taylor Dayne for the
show. After graduating from Western Kentucky University with a degree
in Performing Arts, he moved to Chicago at the same time as Amy
Matheny. For five years he has been performing as an actor at Navy
Pier. He is very active in Windy City Media Group. For Windy City
Times he is a sales representative, photographer, and writer. He also
writes a column for NIghtspots magazine as Pubert in which he reviews
porn. When not working at a restaurant, he can be spotted wooing
Latinos with his Spanish!
OFF AIR PERSONALITIES TRACY BAIM Tracy Baim is Publisher of Lambda
Publications, which produces Windy City Radio as part of its other media
projects, including Windy City Times, Nightspots, identity. Baim founded Lambda Publications and Outlines newspaper in 1987 after
having co-founded Windy City Times in 1985. In the year 2000, Baim purchased
Windy City Times and merged Outlines into WCT. Baim has received dozens
of honors during her 18-year career in Chicago gay journalism. She is a
member of the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame and was a "40 Under
40" honoree from Crain's Chicago Business at age 32. She is co-founder
of the Chicago Area Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and served as
co-chair of the agency for four years. She has also been honored by the
ACLU, Chicago NOW, the Peter Lisagor Awards, and the Lesbian Community
Cancer Project. She received more awards than any other journalist in the
2000 Q Syndicate national gay media awards. She received her news-editorial
journalism degree from Drake University in 1984, and was mentored by her
own parents: Steven Pratt, a journalist with the Chicago Tribune for 29
years, and Joy Darrow, who worked for a variety of publications, including
the Tribune and the Chicago Defender, where she was managing editor for
several years.
KATHLEEN ULM Kathleen Ulm, Windy City Radio Producer, has a wide range of experience in radio and news production,
including several years in marketing for Third Coast Marketing as well
as Host and Homo Promoter to Chixmix Productions, one of the best GLBT
party throwers in the nation.
MARTIE MARRO Martie Marro is Technical Producer
at Materville Studios, an all-minority run Music Studio for disadvantaged
artists. Stewed Tomatoes Materville Studios was chosen to pre-record radio
segments, promos, and commercials for Windy City Radio. Marro, in
conjunction with Lambda Publications also produced High Risk, a double
CD of over 40 artists, to benefit the women of LCCP. In the year
2000, Marro was nominated for a Gay and Lesbian American Music Award for
Best Director of Stewed Tomatoes Video, "Smoke my Cowboy". Marro has recorded
many notable gay and lesbian artists and also worked with notable clients
including, Francis Ford Coppola, Ameritech, Diners Club International,
IBM, Smashing Pumpkins, and McDonald's (must have cheeseburger).
